Aluminum sulfate (chemical formula: Al2(SO4)3) is a widely used industrial reagent that is often confused with alum. Aluminum sulfate is commonly used as a flocculant in purified drinking water and sewage treatment equipment, and is also used in the paper industry.

Application

1. Used as paper sizing agent in the paper industry to enhance the water resistance and impermeability of paper;

 

2. After soluble in water, fine particles and natural colloids in water can be condensed into large flocculent, which can be removed from the water, so it is used as a coagulant for water supply and wastewater;

 

3. Used as turbidity water purification agent, also used as precipitating agent, fixing agent, filler, etc. It is used as raw material (astringent) in cosmetics to suppress perspiration;

 

4. In the fire fighting industry, foam extinguishing agent is formed with baking soda and blowing agent;

 

5. Analytical reagent, mordant, tanning agent, oil decolorizing agent, wood preservative;

 

6. Stabilizers for pasteurization of albumin (including liquid or frozen whole eggs, white or yolk);

 

7. Can be used as raw materials for the manufacture of artificial gems and high-grade ammonium alum, other aluminates;

 

8. In the fuel industry, it is used as a precipitating agent in the production of chrome yellow and lake dyes, and also plays the role of color fixation and filler;

 

9, curing agent (oil, water and other miscellaneous use), albumin pasteurization stabilizer (including liquid or frozen whole eggs, white or yolk). The maximum allowable dosage (FAO/WHO, 1984) is 0.036%.
